That nibbly time of year is approaching when I find myself missing those little dainty ‘croustades’ that I used to buy and fill with delicious concoctions in the days before I was gluten free. I’ve been wracking my brains for an alternative and realised I could make little containers with slices of courgette. Continue reading

Whole Sea Bream with Rocket, Rosemary and Garlic Pesto
I needed an uber-simple but ultra-healthy supper last night. Hubby was going to yoga (very impressive) and I was very tired. Fish and broccoli was the plan, but how to make it delicious as well as speedy? Here’s what I did: Continue reading
Pan-fried skate with capers and cod roe
My fishbox arrived again today with two fresh skate wings inside – and a huge piece of cod roe; I really look forward to the day each month when we will have the freshest fish for supper. This evening’s dish was a tad experimental but it got rave reviews from my husband, who is always a willing guinea pig. Here’s how it all came together. Continue reading
Spring-inspired fish, fennel, orange and olive stew
Yesterday, I invited a few people for supper to celebrate a friend’s recovery from a rather horrible health scare. I had been planning to cook a fish tagine but, typical me, ended up at the last minute changing my mind. It was such a beautiful day that I decided I wasn’t in the mood for the deep, earthy flavours of Morocco and wanted something lighter and more zingy to match the mood of impending Spring. Too late to find a recipe, I ended up rooting in the fridge and putting this together and it turned out to be seriously delicious. Continue reading
Scallops and bacon with samphire and peas
I’ve recently subscribed to Fishbox in an attempt to get more fresh fish into my diet which is both responsibly caught and carefully selected. My first couple of boxes have been a great adventure and I’m looking forward to eating a wider variety of fish more regularly. Continue reading

Smoked mackerel tartare
Although it’s incredibly good for you, I’m not a great fan of smoked mackerel. Generally I find it heavy, indigestible and a bit ‘worthy’. So I was delighted Continue reading
Fish pie ‘tortilla’
OK, I admit, this one was a bit of an accident. It started on Thursday morning; with a busy day ahead, and early supper required, I looked in the fridge and found very little in the way of inspiration apart from a celeriac, which needed using up. A quick rummage through the freezer unearthed two pieces of fish, neither of which was big enough in itself for a main meal. Low carb fishcakes was the thought that sprang to mind. The resulting dish wasn’t quite what I intended but it was delicious. Continue reading
Power Breakfast: scrambled egg parcels
This is my party piece if guests come to stay. It never fails to impress – and it’s really easy. Continue reading
